Speed Dating Helps Singles Find Love

Speed dating might sound completely silly to most, but in fact, it could be a great way to dive into the dating realm in a short period of time. Although some people may not meet their match, it can still be an invaluable experience with much to take from. Just like kissing and flirting, dating is effectively considered a skill that can be mastered. Speed dating is practice for a random meeting later down the line, or could even be the place you meet the love of your life.

I’ve tried speed dating before and as with everything else, there are pros and cons to it. Speed dating can help you learn much about yourself and your preferences, which is important in your pursuit to finding your Mr or Mrs Right. You will gain better understanding of the qualities you are looking for, and the kind of person who would be most compatible with you. Understanding this will save your time, as well as the other person’s time, in your pursuit as you would be able to identify those incompatible with you, much sooner. You will also have plenty of options at the event, which gives you plenty of time to weigh out your options; as you can quickly see who’s worth pursuing. You may feel sparks with certain individuals paving the way for you to go and find out more about them, or you would just continue to meet others. As an added bonus, you get to indulge in plenty of dates in short time period. Thrilled is beyond the word to describe how one can feel at such an event!

Now there are a few things that could go wrong, for example, running into an old flame that you have to sit across for 5 minutes (#tragic). You may even be faced with an incredibly shy person, who is unable to hold a conversation for dear life, but what's worse, is someone who tells stories about their past relationships, and you can't get a word in. Although these are hypothetical scenarios, they need to be prepared for. Something else to keep in mind; is that there could also be issues with the event having more women than men, or vice versa, leaving some people unable to participate. Regardless of these things, don’t be discouraged. Be prepared, stay uplifted, and give it a shot!

Speed Dating Tips

At speed dating events some actually find true love and some leave the same way they arrived -- single. A few strategies will help you make the most of your time with each person you meet. First, prepare yourself by deciding in advance what you're willing to tell the person you are sitting across from. Remember, you only have a few minutes so, keep it short and sweet by highlighting the positive aspects of your personality. Come prepared with questions you would like to ask, even if you have to jot them down. Be confident. Realize you can't mess up the date, this is just practice for what is yet to come. It might be hard at times; but, keep an open mind and just have fun.

Rules of Speed Dating

Under normal circumstances, the women usually sit and remain seated for the entire event. As the first bell sounds the men sit around the woman with the same number table they are assigned to or the woman of their choice. At that moment, there's usually a range of 3-5 minutes to mingle; this allows everyone to have a chance to meet each other. Once the bell sounds again all the men get up and move to their right to meet a new date. A scorecard is usually given so that folks can remember each other’s names after meeting every date; of course scoring should be done discreetly while the dates move around to the next table. Scoring is usually based on appearance, conversation, or even if you had an immediate spark.

I recommend giving speed dating a try even if you feel weird doing it. When it comes down to it, you will learn so much about yourself, preferences, and possibly just have an amazing time in the end. If you prefer something casual, with no obligations, and meeting new people quickly then check it out. You might meet that special someone for you.
