Infamous Virtual Trends

Similar to real life, virtual worlds have trends that always come and go, while some have a much longer lifespan than others. But what are the most cringing trends we’ve seen, that need to be killed off ASAP? Verve X Magazine has compiled some for you.

Social Media Beef/Drama Pages If you're part of the virtual social media, then you've most likely come across expose pages, or posts and stories of users publicly arguing along your timeline. Now as entertaining as they sometimes can be, it's also very immature and unnecessary. Only the wrong kind of people want to see and feed off this daily. These incidents also spread negative vibes around the community, where users begin to feel like IMVU is full of drama, instead of being that fun and sociable platform that most of us grew to love.

Unrealistic Proportions Granted, we understand that most people join virtual worlds like IMVU and SL to have the ability to create avatars and virtual lives of who and what they want to be, and we are all for expressing yourself and practicing creative freedom. However, female avatars with extremely unproportioned body parts from botched waistlines and unrealistically long legs, to male avatars rocking huge muscles accompanied by tiny hands, should really be a thing of the past. For the record, it's okay to have the long leg scaler or the extra muscular scaler than the default avatar, however, we do encourage you to combine them with other scalers that are realistic and tasteful overall.

Just Hold It Already Waffles, ice cream cones, pizzas, etc. hanging out of your mouth, without you holding it, are played out. We're not sure who came up with this trend, but just imagine someone taking a selfie in real life with a slice of pizza hanging freely from their lips; sounds silly right? Let's retire this food frenzy as soon as, by using our hands.

IMVU vs. Second Life Feud It's completely ignorant to put people down based on the platform they prefer, whether it’s IMVU or SL. After all, we all have our own personal goals or reasons to be on the virtual platform, and we are all entitled to our own opinions. Both platforms have pros and cons, while the relevance of each pro and con varies to each individual. Just because SL has more realistic avatars allowing you to walk around freely, it doesn't mean that it's better than IMVU. Just because it's easier to create on IMVU, cheaper, and is more child-friendly, it doesn't mean that it’s better than SL. It's causing a great divide between communities and making people feel unsafe and unwanted to join the other. I mean, of all the things we can be talking and debating on, fighting over which virtual platform is better, is rather weak. Don’t you agree? In the end, users are still dressing up an avatar, socializing, taking photos and investing in the real-life currency, but just on the platform that has the stronger appeal to them. That’s all. End the debate.
