Embracing Your Imperfections

“Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we’re all in this together”

- Brene Brown

Do you embrace your imperfections or find fault in the physical aspects of your body? Self-acceptance means to acknowledge who you are, not who you should be. People get confused with this term because they believe it means accepting your faults. It is not that at all.

Some people are never satisfied with themselves since there is always something to gain, be, do, or have. This creates emptiness within, because you are like a checkout operator processing transactions, instead of being delighted in what you have. This is not to say that you should all just give up and stop trying to improve; it is your nature to grow and expand and flourish. In order to accept your imperfections, cease trying to satisfy others. The more you aim to please, the fewer people will identify you; because “people pleasing” is a powerless state.

Equally, proving yourself to others can be draining to the mind body and soul, and it doesn’t leave room for you to grow as a person. When you are nurturing the negativeness in life, you are missing out on the positive things that life has to offer. Sometimes we all need that “me, myself, and I” time to be vulnerable with ourselves; to understand why we do what we do, act the way we act, and say the things that we say.

Vulnerabilities allow you to embrace your imperfections because you communicate the same intentions you have with others. It shows your humaneness, given that perfection is an unattainable ambition if you wish to live a more enjoyable life. Without a doubt, whatever you are looking for, you are certain to encounter. Although, you should be mindful of your shortcomings, understand there are ways to correct yourself, while bringing your own character to life, and being luminous at the same time.

Begin welcoming your imperfections and stop seeing them as impairment, but instead, take delight in them! The more you do, the more you’ll forget why they were negative flaws in the first place. Let go of striving for perfection and accept your true identity, be your own true character. You are a complex being, and your physical appearance is one facet of your existence, as well as all other facets. If you fixate on your imperfections for too long, whilst downplaying your other aspects, you overlook the wholeness of who you are.

Perfection is not the answer if you aspire to attain inner peace. It will lead you further astray because you are trying to strive to change aspects of yourself that you are unhappy with. There is a kind of beauty in all this and it starts with you. Once you have learned to accept all who you are, your life should be easier going. Learning what you can and cannot do as an individual, pushing through life with an open mindset and perspective, is how your life should be.

Whenever you feel a lack of motivation is on the rise, just tell yourself this: “You’re a diamond dear, they can’t break you.” Or try this one: “Life is like a staircase, you may trip or fall, stumble at the most, but you keep on climbing. You’ll make it to the top.”

Another key element to accepting yourself is confidence. Without that, you’re unable to move forward with your daily life-plans for yourself, and for the rest of your life. Having the confidence in yourself says everything about you, without your lips saying a single word. Standing, feeling and maybe even walking like you’ve accomplished all the goals you wanted, is a boost to keep your self-esteem at ease; thus creating new ways to feed your confidence. It’s almost as if you’re ready to take on the world, even when you feel like you’re totally ready to collapse on that nice fluffy bed. Your confidence is a big part of you; never ignore it. Just like with imperfections, there are bound to be some faults, but embrace your confidence like it’s a big ball of fun energy.

Also, keep reminding yourself: “Forget who they told you to be. Build your own character and shine in the sunlight.” Part of self-love is self-motivation that goes way beyond the body and soul. If there is ever a time you feel like you’re going in a downward spiral, or in one of those, “First that situation and now this?” situations, the key is to not panic. Sounds crazy right? It’s not. To able to maintain a healthy body, one must remember that everything happens for a reason. To take one situation at a time, thus lessening the stress on the body, letting the mind easily focus to figure out a solution for that said problem. Long as you do everything that keeps your mind and soul and body in a positive upbeat, leaving you goal chasing, your life will increase and move you to how you want to shape your life. It will be better than it used to be, good changes will be on the horizon, and things that life threw at you was merely a test to see if you triumph or not. The ‘tough’ things that used to be difficult, will now be easy to obtain and maintain. All it takes is some self-love, embracing imperfections, constant motivation, and learning about yourself, to push forward to be a better version of yourself.
