DrAlexBlessJones: Alpha Kappa Chapter Eta Psi

Alex founded the Alpha Kappa Chapter Eta Psi with her sister Lev three years ago, and now also goes by the name Big Sister Divine. Alex dedicated some time to VXM to answer some of our questions to find out more about her sorority and her views of the Greek world.

Why did you create the Alpha Kappa chapter, Eta Psi?

I wanted a sorority that accepts people for who they are. They must like giving back to others, having fun, and be mature loving ladies. I like to be around people I’m comfy with and as a Prez I got to help select who became a sister. My chapter also came about because I had like minded people interested in joining a sorority.

How did you become aware of AKA?

I know AKA and DST members, from both family and friends in RL and from IMVU. I also did research to get as much information as possible to have a great sorority that is close to the real.

Why did you choose to create a chapter of a RL sorority?

People on here are more attracted to what’s known to them from real, some of my members are RL AKA's and to be honest it was easy to build on what I knew of them.

Which morals and values mean the most to you?

I am big on empowering women but in this time and age, a lot of women don’t realize how important they are in the world. Charity is also important to me as the world will be a better place with each person helping one another. We need to not judge people, but try and understand them.

How do you incorporate charity into an IMVU chapter?

This is how i see it. This is like your RL world; there are schools here, new people, etc. that you can donate to. I have even donated to or lent my service to people who have turned credit into RL cash and have given it to RL charity. People say, “Ohh, well this is just a game - but ok, show you care by helping a new user. Even though it’s a game, a RL person plays it.

What do you incorporate into your chapter, other than charity and empowering women?

We are big on family, fun, creativity and acceptance. It’s just like one big family that's why we will ever have over 22 members. We want to remain close. We took a break, and we still hang out every week. We are now at 13 members after a revamp.

Many D9 organizations were made of African-American members, and added focus on Civil Rights. Where does the importance lie for you in that respect?

It’s important to take a stand in Civil Right matters, but the issue I have with it is the division that some stands may cause. I am black, and I know that our lives matter, but so does all life. We have good white people, just as we have bad black people. We have to be careful when we make these stands, and make sure it’s for everyone.

What do you believe has kept your sorority up and running after so many years?

Family. We respect each other and we give space when we need to. It’s just love.

What separates you from most organizations on IMVU?

I’m honest and I don’t do the bullying. My sisters know they are going to be told what’s up but we all know we going to work on our issues as a family. We love each other, even when we hate each other. We have our sisters backs no matter what. All I can say is that we’re not just a sorority, we are family and the love is real.

Do you feel as though some Greeks on here do not uphold to the same discipline, structure and passion as others?

Yes, and they will say, “It's only IMVU, we can’t as we would in RL.”

What is your opinion on online Greek organizations becoming legitimately recognised as true Greek organizations or chapters, by councils?

That would be good if they can follow the rules cause most organizations on here are just about the parties. They need to stand for something.

Why don’t you have a brotherhood?

Men make things hard. And, let’s just say we tried once and it did not end well.

What would you advise a potential pledge?

Be yourself, give 100% in all you do and the rest will be easy. We are a mirror. Expect to get what you give. If you’re willing, we will guide, teach and support you.

Where do you foresee your chapter in the future?

With the type of relationship we have, we will be around even when IMVU is no more cause we talk in RL and have a bond.

Respect and love will make this world a better place. we all should support each other and just have fun.
