Omega Mu Gamma: iMilan

Kiara, aka iMilan, is the co-founder of the fairly new sorority, Omega Mu Gamma. They claim they want to take a different route to most sororities to stand out from the Greek crowd, but what are they doing?! iMilan gives us an insight to OMG, the issues they face as a newly formed organization and just how they’re dealing with matters.

Could you provide the readers with a brief introduction of yourself?

Hello my name is Kiara. I’m 26 years old and I am co-founder of Omega Mu Gamma.

What is your line name?

My line name is Qveen Vicious #00.

When was OMG founded?

November 12, 2015.

Whose idea was it to start it? And who are the founders?

The founder is Liqher. Her line name is Qveen Vicious #00 as well.

Both of you have the same line name. Why is that?

We kind of just wanted to go a different route than most sororities.

Why the name OMG?

Well there was no one else honestly with that name. We just really wanted to be different.

Why was OMG founded?

We devote ourselves to any challenge, to be achieved through hard work, patience and the collective effort to educate the women of IMVU.

What made you start your own sorority when there are so many out there already?

Well I was apart of two sororities and they really weren’t a good fit for me. There was always some type of drama and disagreements and nothing was being done about it so I wanted to be apart of something that I have control over.

How long have you been in the greek community?

For a little over a year now.

What made you decide to become a part of it?

I always wanted to be part of something on IMVU to make my experience worthwhile.

What are OMG’s colors and mascot?

Black, Robbins Egg, which is a shade of blue, and Crimson Red. Our mascot is the Black Widow.

How many members does OMG have?

As of right now, 8 of us.

Does everyone have a specific title?

Yes, we have a President, Vice President, two Deans of pledges, Event Planner, Secretary and a Director of Greek Relations

Do you have a brotherhood?

No we don’t, but we are thinking of starting one.

Starting one? A lot exist already that don’t have a sisterhood, why not team up?

We thought about that but that would probably cause us to change a lot of stuff on both ends. We thinking about teaming up with Lambda Xi Theta but we are not to sure yet.

Being a new organization, what are some challenges that you faced?

I would have to say mostly doubters. When we first decided to do this, it was many that didn’t think we could and it was a struggle for me alone because as time went on I was kind of believing it. We somehow pulled through with a lot of help and now here we are.

Did you not have faith in yourself and your sorority? And what helped you through that struggle?

There was some there at the time because there were just two of us making things happen before we got other members. I just stayed around a lot of positive people, removed the negativity out of my life and just gained a lot of motivation to see me through.

What is one thing you will not tolerate in your organization?

The main thing we do not and will not tolerate is dating . That is one thing that causes so much drama in any organization.

How would you go about handling a situation if that rule were to be broken?

We will just simply remove both members that decide to do whatever they feel. We had this conversation with them so what they do when they not around us is on them but if we actually catch it, they will be removed from OMG.

What makes your Greek different?

Omega Mu Gamma is about finding your own true voice, speaking your truth and speaking from the heart. There are a lot of greeks today that really don’t know anything about that.

Is there a policy in regards to members dating other members’ exes?

Well I mean we are all grown women at the end of the day so that should kind of be common sense but, if we must state that to them then it’s no problem.

What is pledging like for OMG? And how many sessions have you had so far?

Pledging lasts two weeks. The first week is about bonding and tasks and the second week is classroom and studying for the exams we give. We just had our first line last month and we are about to start our second line soon.

So why don’t you have them the other way around or combine bonding, tasks and studying into the two weeks?

Well we want them to bond and everything first and to get a feel of what being apart of OMG will be like and that way they will all know each other before they enter the classroom.

Do you require them to do tasks?

Yes, they all have to do tasks in order to pledge OMG. That’s what the first week consists of, tasks and bonding.

What does the future hold for OMG?

We have some future events coming up, we have one more this month. We are in the process of doing our second line and our next event is our Blackout Party.

If you could change one thing about the Greek Community on here, what would it be?

I would have to say the involvement in general. They host so many events but not many participate in it.

How would you change that?

Try to hold a meeting of some sort and discuss it. I’m only one person at the end of the day, so I can’t make people do anything but if you call yourself a brother/sisterhood, you kind of have to show that.

Nicely said. What is your advice for someone looking for a sorority to pledge?

Well first, I would say make sure it’s something you really want to do . Don’t join it just because someone asks you or you think it may be fun. Make sure it catches your interest. Also, do your research on the sorority. I think that’s where a lot of people make mistakes. They don’t look into it, so when they join it’s not everything they thought it would be.

Very good advice. Any last words before we wrap this interview up?

I just really thank you for having me tonight.
