Fiends: Maertice & Nubian
There is a new movement on IMVU - a Developer/Artist/Advertising group named Fiends. It was founded by Maertice, with the help of Nubian, in December 2015. Their mission statement is, ‘We believe in serving the Fiends.’ Maertice informs us that this statement is from a movie called “New Jack City”. She explains, “When you’re serving the fiends you give them what they are addicted to, so I’m serving all the fiends.”
Fiends has a goal of becoming one of the top developer/artist groups in the community. Even though the group is fairly new to the grid, they already have 500 group members and many of whom are talented creators and artists. To reach the top, they have set themselves some targets. Over the next three months, they aim to attract more group members reaching 1k, while also recruiting six creators and three artists. Recruitment will begin shortly in some weeks, and they will be searching for versatile creators and artists who will add their own creative twist to Fiends. They will be intrigued by how skillful you are to your craft. This means your authentic work has to reach a certain protocol before you’re accepted. They look for quality and originality.
“Whoever joins will definitely gain exposure and free space to express themselves. The Fiends is a platform for those to express themselves basically. Just be different, stay true to yourself and that’s the message that we want to enforce within Fiends.” - Nubian.

Maertice began creating when someone very dear to her taught her how to. It’s something which she never thought she would enjoy but here she is 4 years later, doing just that and setting up her own group Fiends, with her new smart and talented friend Nubian.

Nubian is a self-taught creator and artist, developing herself since 2007. She is often inspired from her surroundings and works off ideas which she builds on. She was once a member of The Pack, until she felt it was time to move on to make more progress.
“I use mostly Gimp. It’s funny as I only started using Gimp back in the days because I used up all my Photoshop trials. I’ve also been using a mouse because I was too cheap to buy a tablet but I am looking into getting one though. But I want to show people that it doesn’t matter which program you use, just make the best of it and you will get results.” - Nubian.
