Matthew: Aftermath & Recovery

Hurricane Matthew was a very powerful and deadly tropical cyclone that very quickly became the first category 5 Atlantic Hurricane since Hurricane Felix in 2007. This storm caused mass destruction and took countless lives across Haiti, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Lucayan Archipelago before finally making its way towards the United States. It hit Florida and the southern regions, taking 1,384 lives total. One week after the storm, North Carolina's death toll rose to 26 due to the Hurricane's aftermath. The damages in the U.S are estimated to be $6.91 billion, making it the costliest Hurricane since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Many celebrities took to social media to send their well-wishes and support to those affected by Hurricane Matthew. A handful of celebrities also donated to the victims, including: Cher, Donald Trump, and Heidi Klum.

Verve X Magazine would like to express our deepest condolences to anyone that has been affected by this storm. We’re also very relieved for those who have survived the Hurricane and we hope the recovery to your homes, vehicles, and other property is speedy and successful.

Unfortunately, with any catastrophic situation, there is always the aftermath and cleanup to be handled. Many people think that once the Hurricane is gone and if their area was spared any real costly damage, that they simply have nothing more to worry about. That is simply not the case. In addition, we suggest to our readers to avoid and report down power lines, don't drive through flooded areas and stay prepared because Hurricane season doesn't officially end until November 30th. Even after that date, there is still a chance a tropical storm may pop up and form into a Hurricane. Remember to stay prepared and try to remain positive during these trying times.
